Student Survey Responses and Global Trends Combine to Create the Top Ten Ranking

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN (January 4, 2022) - Ten countries have been selected as the best places in the world to study abroad in a ranking recently released by higher education search portal, educations.com.

For the fourth year in a row, educations.com used over 10,000 student survey responses to highlight key factors in the international student’s journey. Priorities like cultural experiences, high-quality teaching, and language learning provided a framework for ranking the countries based on publicly-available data. Ten countries across Europe, North America, and Oceania were awarded the top positions, with New Zealand reaching the top ten for the first time since 2019. Australia led the list this year by overtaking Canada’s two-year reign as number one. Europe was represented in the top three by Germany, making Australia, Canada, and Germany the most ideal destinations in their respective continents. All three countries scored highly for their high-quality teaching as well as their students’ abilities to achieve career goals.

In a statement, Erik Harrell, CEO of Keystone Education Group, said:

“There are several shifts in student preferences as the pandemic continues to affect the landscape of international higher education. High-quality teaching and career preparation are now the top factors in how students choose their ideal study fit. In the 2021 survey of over 10,000 prospective international higher education students, almost a third of students around the world choose their country of study before their university and program. Although many universities can overlook the importance of their location's reputation for high standards of education and career opportunities, 30% of students say they will choose a country before ever considering a specific university. In our three years of the ranking, we've helped nearly one million "country-first" students choose a study abroad destination based on the factors that are most important to them, and look forward to continuing to respond to their priorities with data-driven lists."
